Q. Please, no calculus except derivatives, if possible. We've talked about this property in class about a million times (i.e. how satellite dishes work), but no teacher has ever provided a proof. I came up with one a while ago, but it's too lengthy for my taste (~1 page). The parallel lines I'm referring to are the ones that are parallel to the line containing the vertex and the focus, and in many cases, the y-axis.
